Championship Show of The Shar Pei Club of Great Britain Markfield, Leics.
Judge.: Linda Reinelt-Gebauer (Tsihmao’s)
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the chance to judge your dogs at this show. I have observed Shar Pei breeding in Great Britain from the very beginning and in the 80´s there were some dogs from my kennel who were a very successful part of the make up of Shar Peis in Great Britain. This is the third time I have judged Shar Peis in Great Britain and I give my compliments to the breeders. You have done a good job! As a general summary I have found the quality of the bitches to be stronger than that of the males. It pleases me to see so many good females, as they are the basis of every breed and every kennel. Personally I have never kept an anatomical or temperamental weakness in my breeding program. My rule is; What is good enough for me is also good enough for others. My exports to other countries were always correct and of better quality. Altogether (at this show) I have seen a good breed-typical Shar Pei with excellently placed ears. I believe that the time of the "Dumbo Ears" in Great Britain is past. I observed clear open eyes and did not find any dog with an overbite or a spotted tongue. I found solid, strong bodies, small closed feet and correct tail sets. The temperament was outstanding. Every dog allowed me to go over him and I give my compliments to the breeders. Naturally you do not live on the Island of Happiness, no, as everywhere the hair texture is too soft and too flat on many. Please don't forget from where the name Shar Pei comes. I believe in every case one should concentrate on getting a horse coat back into the breeding program. Movement, in my opinion, is the biggest problem. What good is a beautiful dog who cannot move? On the continent it is now mandatory in almost every country to have the hips X-rayed. I believe it is time to do this in Great Britain as well. I very much enjoyed my day and am grateful for the opportunity to see, touch and evaluate your dogs.
